About E.P.B

EPB-HF2015Hi!  My name is Helen.
I’m a city girl in Toronto learning to make healthy choices in food, physical activity and daily habits.
I love spending time in the kitchen and getting creative with new recipes. I also love to swim, play with photography, practice yoga and travel. The photo here was taken in Nice, France, one of the beautiful cities I fell in love with. When it comes to food, I truly believe in quality over quantity. Food allows me to connect with others, it challenges creativity and is even able to show a little bit of love.

I don’t own a business or hold big dinners at home with a crowd of friends and family, although both do sound tempting in the future.  Like many others, I always had people tell me to eat or to avoid certain foods because it is “good/bad”. It really stirred up curiosity to seek out answers…and eventually led to my interest in health and nutrition.

At the moment I am studying my undergraduate of nutritional sciences. Social & community issues of nutrition is the area I hope to contribute to. I am passionate about food equity, animal rights, healthy eating, education around nutrition and supporting small-scale businesses and farmers. You will find  posts on recipes that follow my plant-based lifestyle, vegan ventures, baked goods, as well as things I share about my life.

Please be considerate of my content, all rights are reserved by moi. If you would like to use my photos or posts, please do so with permission because each is created with a decent amount of effort and thought.

I’d love to hear from you, thanks for dropping by!

  1. Hi Helen,
In honour of your gorgeous creativity and support of all things tasty and creative I have nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award. You’re so deserving and more people need to know about your blog! It’s really up to you if you choose to participate or not, but I wanted to acknowledge you anyway. All the details are here at my latest post http://cauldronsandcupcakes.com/2012/05/30/my-one-lovely-blog-award/
    Love and Light, Nicole xx

  2. Hiiii Helen! 😀 Your blog is so bright and clean! I love that. And nutrition science sounds like a really cool major. How is it so far? Is it lots of complicated science, like the name suggests? It may be a silly question but I’d like to know more about it. 🙂

    1. Hi Ellie! Thank you :), I have been trying to keep my blog simple haha. Btw, I really love the new formatting of your blog! It’s not a silly question, I’m happy you asked. I love my major, it’s challenging but it encompasses many different things that I am interested in from both the science side and the studies around social dynamics of health. MMmm.. I think any science is complicated haha but I’m guessing it is not as complicated as engineering studies. Let me know if I missed anything you wanted to know 🙂

  3. Hey, you’re a Toronto girl too! 🙂

I love your passion for making food, I wish to develop that too this year! I also plan to take an online course on nutrition just to have more knowledge on it 🙂

Btw, would you mind if I used this as a description for your blog on my page dedicated to my readers? It’s a summary of the last line on this about page: “Vegetarian & baked goods recipes, as well as things I share about my life.” What do you think?

    1. Oh wow, you’re also from Toronto! Taking the nutrition course sounds like a really good start 🙂 You will learn so many fascinating things that you can really put into use in your day to day life.
I don’t mind at all about the summary 🙂

  4. Helen,
Thanks so much for stopping by and following my blog! I’m so glad I was able to discover yours in the process.
Our views on food, animal rights, and healthy eating are very similar so I’m excited to try out some of your wonderful recipes – especially the beet cupcakes!
Looking forward to following your future adventures!
    -Kristin

  5. Hey Helen, I think you’re a genius for studying nutrition sciences. I took a few nutrition classes in undergrad, but majored in Applied Exercise Science. I think you are way cool with you nutrition, sports and travel interest. I can’t travel cause I’m still healing, but I’d love to add you on skype or something and become friends 😀

    Cheers,
    Lucas

  6. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I love your blog design and the photos are just wonderful! Am also giggling at the “mistaken identity” in Paris incident! Some parts of the world are friendlier than others sadly. If only we could all say “hello” to a stranger without it being taken another way!

    1. Thanks for taking time to visit too 🙂 I totally love the spread of your recipes. Haha yes, my French host mother was very particular in telling me not to talk to strangers when I visited Paris!

  7. I am developing a program for cancer survivors and many of your recipes are perfect! If I give credit with your webiste link, am I allowed to use your photos and recipes? I would love to drive traffic your way!
